This is my first Black Keys album, the group having been recommended to me by a friend and his daughter. I didn't know which to buy. I was attracted by the artistic egg on the cover of Magic Potion; you have to start somewhere. If this is not the group's most esteemed album, I must say that I am certainly impressed. I listened straight through. I hear the rock/blues drive of the best Zepplin, the raw, relentless energy of Hendrix, and the bare bones big music of early Bad Company. The lyrics are simple yet oblique enough to keep the listener interested. The guitar sound and the vocals are everything. The drumming is perfectly integral, although I would like to hear more of its impact, both kick and cymbals, in the recording. I will be checking out more of Black Keys.
COME TO ARGENTINA PLEASE!!!!! WE LOVE YOU IN HERE! <3
First heard this in 2007 and was blown away by the heavy, raw, garage band sound that was like nothing else at the time. The souls of some great 60's blues-rock musicians must have inhabited them- a little Hendrix, a little Beefheart, among others. This will be one of their best because it was written before fame. Don't sell out.
I can't believe Pat actually said in an interview that this was not a good album and did not care for it much. This was the first album I heard of the black keys and the rest is history I went out and bought all there others, but Magic Potion is one of my favorite Keys albums from the top to bottom.
One of my favorite Keys' cd's and some of Dan's finest riffs. An incredible follow up to Rubber Factory. Every song on this album deserves 5 stars. IMO, top ten best album of all-time.
I CAN LISTEN TO THE KEYS ANYTIME...THESE GUYS ROCK!!!! I LOVE THESE GUYS!!
